Coaching When you choose Think Fast Multisport, you're choosing Joseph Vinciquerra as your coach. As founder and owner, you should know that you'll be working with me directly, not an arbitrarily assigned coach who works for me. And unlike many other coaching services you'll find, I prefer to have direct and regular contact with my clients as your training progresses. Biography I have been competing in endurance sports for more than 15 years as an "everyday athlete." Starting as a cross-country mountain bike racer, I enjoyed many years of competing on the dirt and building my endurance as a junior, while working my way toward competing as a collegiate athlete in 1996. Though I initially used a road bike strictly to cross-train and build fitness for the mountain bike, I eventually transitioned fully to road racing within a few years. I made my way through the ranks and began training and racing with a New York State regional cycling team while living in Syracuse, NY. My specialty was in hilly road races, but I also enjoyed racing criteriums, circuit races, and time trials while competing in some of the Northeast's greatest multi-day stage races. In 1999, I won the New York State Road Racing Championships as a Category IV cyclist just before turning my attention to multisport. In 2000 I began training as a runner - entering local 5k and 10k road races. At the time, running mostly served as a means to build additional endurance on the bike while providing a very time-efficient workout. My interest in running expanded to endurance trail running, and with a newfound passion for training across multiple disciplines, I began competing in run-bike-run duathlons in 2003. Shortly thereafter, I added swim-training into my daily mix, and took up the beautiful sport of triathlon in 2004. From cyclist, to runner, to triathlete. After a season of short-course triathlon racing, I spent the next several years honing my skills in the water and on the roads for half-Ironman and Ironman length triathlons. In 2007, I proudly competed in Ironman USA (Lake Placid) where I finished prominently in the top 10% overall, before focusing on my marathon performance in 2008 when I set a new personal record by more than 7 minutes and qualifying for Boston. Credentials & Style I've always valued the power of science behind the sport and the importance it plays in coaching endurance athletes. Quantifying training, evaluating performance, and guiding workouts with numbers are key ingredients to effective, intelligent training. Of equal importance, staying current with the latest advances in training methods is imperative to helping athletes understand their body's response to the stresses of training. To this end, I spend almost as much time studying the state of the science as I do in my own personal athletic training. I hold advanced degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering, as well as in business management. Additionally, I am a USA Cycling Certified Coach and have taken graduate-level courses in human and cellular physiology, neuroscience, biokinetics, and biomechanics. |
